ELYRIA, Ohio  — The new headquarters of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC will remain in Lorain County and will be located in Avon, Ohio, the company has announced. Bendix has signed an agreement to purchase an approximately 60-acre site just over 10 miles from its current location in Elyria. The company announced in February that it would construct a new headquarters campus in Northeast Ohio. Continued growth has meant it has exceeded the capabilities and capacity of its current location.

A groundbreaking date for the new headquarters has not yet been finalized and also is contingent on final approvals from state and local entities. The company will continue to operate out of its Elyria headquarters until construction of the new headquarters is complete.

Bendix is a North American leader in the development and manufacture of leading-edge active safety and braking system technologies for commercial vehicles. The move to Avon will enable Bendix to further expand its business and sustain its ability to develop solutions to meet the needs of the commercial vehicle industry.

“We are pleased to select Avon as the community for our future and excited about this next chapter in our history,” said Joe McAleese, Bendix chairman. “Our new location allows Bendix to continue drawing from the skilled workforce in Northeast Ohio that has contributed so importantly to our success. And the site in Avon will not only allow us to remain in Lorain County, but will accommodate the expanded, updated facility required to maintain and accelerate the rapid growth we’ve experienced, particularly over the past dozen years. We remain deeply grateful to Elyria for the support it has shown us over our many decades as a part of the community.”

More than 550 members of the organization’s workforce which numbers more than 3,000 people are employed in Elyria, overseeing the company’s research, development, engineering, testing, sales and marketing. Bendix established its Elyria headquarters in 1941, when the company was known as Bendix-Westinghouse.

Since 2002, Bendix has been a member of the Munich, Germany-based Knorr-Bremse Group. Knorr-Bremse is the leading worldwide supplier of pneumatic braking and related safety systems for commercial vehicle and railroad applications.
