DENSO Invests $151 Million, Will Add 442 New Jobs At Two Michigan Facilities

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Global automotive supplier DENSO is investing approximately $151 million and adding roughly 442 new jobs at two of its Michigan facilities located in Southfield and Battle Creek between 2013-2015. At DENSO’s North American headquarters in Southfield, Mich., the company is investing approximately $45 million and hiring about 176 employees to expand research and development of next-generation technologies to improve fuel economy and safety. DENSO will invest approximately $105 million and add about 266 jobs at its manufacturing facility in Battle Creek, Mich., to produce advanced thermal components.
 
Expansion in Southfield, Mich.
DENSO is investing North American research and development activities to develop next-generation automotive technologies to improve fuel efficiency and safety. The project includes, laboratory and testing facilities to support the development of components for electric hybrid vehicles, gasoline direct injection systems, high-output alternators, more efficient air-conditioning systems, and infotainment and connectivity products. DENSO plans to hire 176 new positions including, engineering, sales, and professional and technical jobs to support the expansion.
 
DENSO Manufacturing in Battle Creek, Mich.
DENSO is investing approximately $105 million in new manufacturing capabilities for advanced thermal management products including, but not limited to, new lines for radiator and condenser products. DENSO plans to add 266 news positions including 46 professional and skilled trade positions and 220 manufacturing positions to support expanded manufacturing activity.
 
North American Investment
Last week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, DENSO announced it would invest nearly $1 billion in North America over the next four years, which will result in more than 2,000 jobs across the region. The investment will allow DENSO to better support its North American customers, as well as expand new business areas and localize products, many of which will help automakers meet upcoming fuel requirements. More than $750 million will be invested in the United States alone, along with more than 1,200 jobs, the company said.
 
DENSO is working with both local and state governments, including the State of Michigan, to finalize its investment details. Last year, DENSO added 150 new positions in Michigan.
 
Currently, in North America, DENSO employs more than 14,000 people at 28 consolidated companies and affiliates. Of these, 26 are manufacturing facilities located in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In the U.S. alone, DENSO employs more than 10,000 people in California, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, and Arkansas. DENSO’s North American consolidated sales totaling US$6.2 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012.
