I am thinking about replacing the rear brake pads on my 2006 Ford Mustang. Is this something that I could do myself with “a little ” auto experience?

Yes it is. You will need a special tool to compress the piston on the caliper. Parts stores that rent tools usually have it. As long as you have that and basic tools you should be good. Don’t forget to turn or replace those rotors.
