Jimmie Johnson’s 48 Chevrolet Makes It 48 Straight For MOOG Steering And Suspension

Johnson wins sixth NASCAR Cup title, extends MOOG winning streak that began in 1966.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS captured their sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup title and extended the MOOG Steering and Suspension brand’s Cup Series championship streak to 48 years in Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway. The leading choice of NASCAR crew chiefs and professional technicians, MOOG Steering and Suspension parts are manufactured by global vehicle components supplier Federal-Mogul Corp.

Johnson’s title, the first in the era of NASCAR’s advanced Gen-6 vehicle platform, continues an unprecedented winning streak that began in 1966 with David Pearson and the MOOG-equipped No. 6 Dodge. In total, 20 different drivers – including racing legends Richard Petty, Benny Parsons, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt, and Jeff Gordon – have won Cup Series championships on MOOG parts over the past 48 years.

“There are very few brands and technologies that have stood the test of time, both on the racetrack and in the automotive service bay, as well as MOOG,” said Michael Proud, director of marketing, North America, Federal-Mogul. “Sprint Cup crew chiefs and automotive service professionals choose MOOG day after day, year after year, because they know that our innovative parts are designed and built to deliver superior performance and durability under a full range of conditions.”

Sunday’s race capped a perfect weekend for the MOOG brand, as Matt Crafton and the MOOG-equipped No. 88 Toyota clinched the season title in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and Austin Dillon won his first NASCAR Nationwide Series title in his MOOG-equipped No. 3 Chevrolet.

The MOOG product line includes an extensive range of high-quality steering and suspension components – including ball joints, tie rod ends, control arms, idler and pitman arms, sway bar links, complete strut assemblies, hub assemblies and universal joints – covering virtually any foreign-nameplate or domestic vehicle. These parts are available through thousands of automotive service locations and parts providers throughout the U.S. and Canada.
