MOOG ‘Problem Solver Of The Year’ Award Presented To Ryan Newman Crew Chief Matt Borland

Borland earned year-end Problem Solver honors based on his Sprint Cup Series-high five weekly MOOG “Problem Solver of the Race” wins.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Federal-Mogul Corp. presented the $100,000 MOOG Steering and Suspension “Problem Solver of the Year” Award to Matt Borland, crew chief for Ryan Newman and the MOOG-equipped No. 39 Quicken Loans Chevrolet SS, during the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Award Luncheon in Las Vegas last week. Borland earned year-end Problem Solver honors based on his Sprint Cup Series-high five weekly MOOG “Problem Solver of the Race” wins. The weekly MOOG award is presented to the crew chief whose car posts the greatest second-half improvement in average lap time while finishing on the lead lap.  Borland won the weekly award at Fontana in March, at Darlington and Charlotte in May, at Richmond in September, and at Phoenix in November.  Three crew chiefs – Todd Gordon (No. 22 Ford), Gil Martin (No. 29 Chevrolet) and Paul Wolfe (No. 2 Ford) – finished the year with four weekly MOOG wins each.

“We had three- and four-way ties at the top of the Problem Solver standings over the final two months of racing, but Matt ultimately pulled it out with his win at Phoenix,” said Jay Burkhart, senior vice president, global marketing, Federal-Mogul Vehicle Components segment. “So much of a Sprint Cup car’s performance is in the hands of the crew chief, and Matt showed that he is among the very best when it comes to finding that extra edge during the second half of each race.”

MOOG Steering and Suspension components are the leading choice of automotive repair professionals and top crew chiefs and have helped drive an unprecedented 48 consecutive NASCAR Cup champions – including this year’s Sprint Cup winner, Jimmie Johnson and the 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet – to victory.
