DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor Co. has announced a series of products designed to help shops and suppliers by streamlining inventory and reducing prices. To date, Motorcraft has reduced pricing on nearly 4,000 parts, which amounts to a 20 percent price reduction across active Motorcraft parts. Additionally, Motorcraft is streamlining several product lines to provide the same coverage with less inventory, and in some cases adding Motorcraft products to meet the needs of aging vehicles.

“Our third-quarter product actions are the result of careful analysis of our entire product line and valuable feedback from shops and suppliers who use our parts,” said Marc Liskey, North America Repair Product Planning Acceleration Product Launch manager. “Price reductions coupled with new, more simplified product lines will result in easier stocking, more efficient inventories, greater product availability and higher customer satisfaction across the board for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury owners.”

The product actions will result in expanded Motorcraft product coverage, easier stocking and parts that are priced competitively with other aftermarket options. To date, product actions include:

·Brake Pads – Motorcraft will offer new brake pads and rotors to expand its existing line of high-quality brake products. Motorcraft will continue to provide OE parts for new model applications and in addition, Motorcraft is now offering high-quality later-life cycle vehicle focused products for owners looking for a high-quality alternative.

·Oxygen Sensors – Motorcraft has launched a new universal Oxygen Sensor that consolidates 24 OE part numbers into a single item that services hundreds of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury applications.

·Remanufactured Alternators – Motorcraft has expanded the product lineup with competitively priced, OE design reman alternators, providing coverage for most Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

·Remanufactured Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) – Launched to provide a cost-effective alternative to new replacement units, Motorcraft reman EPAS provide OE quality with the latest technology updates at a competitive price point.

·Radiators – This part line is being newly offered under the Motorcraft brand and has been designed and tested to meet stringent Ford engineering standards.

·Power Steering Hoses – New to Motorcraft, this line of power steering parts for turnkey repairs replicates OE and provides a direct replacement for a perfect fit and easy installation.

·Shocks/Struts – This consolidated line features 400 fewer SKUs, resulting in a 45 percent reduction in out-of-warranty application. Motorcraft shocks are the only shocks that meet OE specifications for fit, form, function and durability, and will now be compatible with identical parts on different model years.

“This inventory overhaul will make it much easier for shops and suppliers to offer Motorcraft parts for every Ford, Lincoln and Mercury repair,” said Liskey. “Through price reductions and a more straightforward product lineup, we can ensure Motorcraft parts are competitive while still preserving the same quality and fit that is the hallmark of the Motorcraft brand. That’s a win for everyone.”

Motorcraft product actions will continue into the fourth quarter and beyond, with a steady rollout of price reductions and inventory changes to benefit dealers/distributors, shops and consumers. In the future, Motorcraft will continue to evolve to ensure product lines offer high quality, competitively priced parts that are readily available.

All parts will come with Motorcraft’s two-year/unlimited mileage warranty. Motorcraft will also continue to offer its technical hotline to support dealers, shops and distributors.

Customer Service: How It’s Done

Customer service should be your number one priority, and it all starts with the greeting.

This is always an important topic to discuss, because I consider excellent customer service one of the most important tools you can have to earn trust, respect and repeat business from the customers that come through your door. Whether that customer is do-it-yourselfer from across town or the professional repair shop across the street, your business depends on a solid relationship. It’s a subject that I am passionate about, and it’s one that many people are losing touch with. Whether you are communicating to someone in person, on the phone or using some type of social media, good customer service and bad can both exist. You can’t afford the latter, so this is the first in a series of topics which can and should be shared from the front of the shop to the back. No matter which role you hold, you represent the shop and yourself. Customer service should be your number one priority.First on the list is the greeting. From the second a customer walks in the door, they need to know you appreciate them coming in and how important they are to your business. First impressions are everything and here’s the correct way to do it each and every time: look them directly in the eye, smile and say hello!Of course, you can say “Good morning” or “Welcome to Joe’s Autocare,” but it should be a formal greeting and the most important thing is that you have smiled, looked them in the eye and recognized that they have walked through the door. You should always retain a formal greeting until you are on a first-name basis with a customer. Only once you have established that level of relationship is it OK to use the less formal greeting of “Hi,” followed by the person’s name. This greeting does more than just indicate respect and appreciation for someone walking through the door. Most likely there are customers both new and old who are in earshot of your conversation. For newer customers, this continues to build rapport and reinforce their positive view of your shop; they see that you demonstrate respect and treat everyone in the same manner. For repeat customers, even ones that have been coming for years, the greeting is important because the way you treat them is the reason they continue to come. And when a long-time customer comes in and you greet them with “Hi [First Name],” this indicates your appreciation for them and that you’re glad to see them as a person, more than just a customer. New customers that witness this will see that your repeat customers are comfortable enough to be on a first-name basis, another indication of the trust they have in you.
