RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. John Watkins of Mayfield, Ky., a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Spartanburg County, has received a $1,000 scholarship to pursue his education as an automotive repair professional.
Watkins’ scholarship award was made possible through a donation by Chuck Udell, senior partner, Essential Action Group, to honor U.S. military veterans who have applied for scholarships through the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship site. The GAAS Scholarship Committee recently announced that more than 100 recipients were selected for more than roughly $104,000 in scholarship awards this year.
“I am proud to sponsor this award that supports veterans who have served our country and are now seeking civilian careers in the aftermarket,” Udell said. “Our industry boasts many veterans who make vital contributions every day to the advancement of the aftermarket.”
The annual two-day Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium brings together industry leaders and experts to examine the issues and trends affecting the automotive aftermarket and influencing its future. Net proceeds of the event are used to fund the GAAS Scholarship Program.
