"HOLD" is a feature which drops the transmission down a gear when you are climbing steep hills or passing. The HOLD light on means you are currently in hold mode. It can be activated/deactivated via a button on your shift lever. If it is flashing, it indicates a stored trouble code related to the transmission. The owners manual will give a description of this feature, and in what situations you should use it.
