Piquet Marks Second Podium Finish In Two Weeks With WIX

The Charlotte race marked the halfway point of the 2014 season of the Red Bull Global Rallycross champion series. Next up for Piquet and SH Racing Rallycross is the inaugural running of rallycross racing at Daytona International Speedway Aug. 22-23.

Nelson Piquet Jr. raced to a hard-fought 3rd place at The Dirt Track at Charlotte last weekend, marking his second podium finish in two weeks. Piquet, who raced from 7th to 3rd, also extended his provisional championship lead to 46 points over driver Scott Speed.

“It was good to spend a weekend here at home and see friends and family,” the Charlotte native said after the race. “The weekend had a lot of ups and downs – coming in with the points lead, we tried to eliminate all the risks we had, but until the final it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. We were just up and down and running around.”

The Charlotte race marked the halfway point of the 2014 season of the Red Bull Global Rallycross champion series. In the last six races at Pocono Raceway, Ryan Newman ranks second in most points earned, and he’s also recorded 13 career top-10 finishes at the Tricky Triangle.

So how does Newman view his chances at the GoBowling.com 400 on Sunday? “I think we are better,” said Newman, who is 13th in Chase standings after racing to an 11th-place finish last weekend in Indy. “We now have two top-fives in the last four races and should have had at least a top-10 at Indy, but just got a little behind on track position at midway. Our performances are definitely better heading into this race in comparison to last time.” Tickets are still available for the Pocono race on Aug. 3.
