PENDLETON, Ind. Remy International has signed an agreement to supply its HVH250 motors to Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. Quantum will use the motors in its Ford F-150 PHEV program to convert the gasoline powered light-duty pickup trucks to plug-in hybrid operation.
Quantum will install the Remy HVH250 electric machine as the traction motor into a parallel hybrid system that delivers an all-electric range of 35 miles and a hybrid operational range of 400 miles.
Kevin Quinn, Remy Electric Motors vice president/general manager, commented, "Quantum is a very innovative company, and the Ford F-150 PHEV program is just another great example of their capabilities and drive to move technology forward. Remy is extremely pleased to be part of their success."
The F-150 PHEV comes standard with 4WD, but can also be operated in 2WD mode. The vehicle has a payload of up to 900 lbs. and a towing capacity of 5,800 lbs., making it a good choice for truck fleets requiring the performance potential of an electric drive system combined with the utility value of a light-duty pickup truck.
According to David Mazaika, Quantum’s chief operating officer, "Quantum’s Ford F150 PHEV program had some very stringent requirements for the electric motors and generators. Remy’s HVH 250 really delivers on all fronts, performance, reliability, value and efficiency. This is exactly the type of key partner we need to make this program a success."
