my rear diff on my 2005 ford mustang is making a whine and popping sound no loss of power or vibration any ideas?

The first step regardless of differential type should be to check the fluid level and condition. If this is a limited slip differential, the whine and popping may be coming from the clutch pack. Check, drain, and refill the differential with the appropriate amount of fluid and limited slip additive (if required), and inspect the

I have a 2007 pontiac grand prix gxp. When I apply the brakes it makes a horrible high pitch squeal. I replaced the pads rotors and put anti squeal on the rotors as well.

I have tried many different brands and qualities with no luck. The car has done this since new and even the dealer said that there wasn’t anything they could do about it. please help

customer has 2002 ford explorer v6 question how would one pour in the blue devil head gasket sealant if the truck does not have a radiator cap and should he?

He does have a radiator cap, it’s just not on the radiator. It’s on the reservoir. And yes, he can use the blue devil. Matthew Vaughn O’Reilly Auto Parts

I have a 05 Dodge caravan and I was wondering if its bad on the transmission to start the van and let it warm up. I have been told by a couple of different people that letting it idle in park will tear up the transmission. Thanks.

is it better to follow the “change oil” light on the dash or to follow the usual 3 month/3000 mile oil change routine?

As long as you check your oil level and condition between oil changes on a regular basis, there is usually no harm in following the 5,000-mile or more intervals recommended by the OEM. The problem occurs that as the vehicle gets older and more mileage on it there are many other wear items that need to be checked

The biggest question I encounter is “which brand conventional oil is better?”. My reply is usually they are the same, unless you go up to a synthetic oil. I have read the labels, and they all say the same thing. Clarify please?

A sales representative for a major oil company once addressed our local service dealer association. When asked, "What’s the difference in brands?" question he replied: "That depends on what color race car you like best!" Technology tends to drive all like products in the same direction. Tires, motor oils, batteries and other consumer purchased automotive products are really very similar,

I have a 2008 saturn vue with a 2.4l engine that is losing anti freeze cant see any leaks when pressure test. The oil is not over full and it does not seam to be burning it either.

Perform a "Block Test" with the special Block Check tool and fluid to determine if the cylinder head gasket is leaking hydrocarbons into the cooling system and fluid into the cylinders. This test can also be performed with a emissions analyzer, holding the probe over the open radiator to detect hydrocarbons. Jim O’Neill Chino Autotech

I have a GM fluid #12378514. Do you know if that fluid is compatible with any O’Reilly product?

The GM Versatrak fluid you specified is proprietary to General Motors, and there is no aftermarket fluid that is a direct replacement. The pint bottle of Versatrak is pricey (anywhere from $20 to $30, depending on the dealership’s pricing), but I wouldn’t recommend anything else in the Versatrak applications. I have a 2000 Chevy impala and when my car is in park it shakes a little bit. What could that be?

It may be the torque converter going bad or the fluid may need to be changed. Also, harmonic balancers go bad and cause low idle vibrations. —Gerald Wheelus Edgewood Auto Parts #253, Edgewood, Texas
