Tenneco Bringing New Coverage, Latest Technologies To Walker Converter Line

Company dramatically expanding global nameplate SKUs, accelerating introduction of EPA- and CARB-compliant manifold converters.

LAS VEGAS – Several popular Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia applications will be among dozens of late-model import vehicles that will be added to Tenneco’s Walker line of catalytic converters in 2013. The company also plans to significantly increase its offering of EPA- and CARB-compliant manifold converters to reflect the latest emissions control designs being used by global vehicle manufacturers.

Tenneco says it will introduce more than 40 additional converter part numbers during the first quarter of 2013 and approximately 120 new SKUs over the course of the year. This investment in coverage will be heavily weighted toward global applications, targeting millions of late-model Toyota Prius, Honda CR-V, Subaru Impreza, Kia Rio and Hyundai Azera vehicles, among others. New Walker converters will be introduced on a quarterly basis through the company’s “Continuous Launch” program.

“Leading distributors and service providers are growing their emissions control businesses by relying on Tenneco and the Walker brand for superior quality and coverage. We continue to invest in the latest technologies and aggressive new coverage to help our customers maximize their competitive advantage,” said Ric Alameddine, vice president, marketing and engineering, North American/European aftermarket, Tenneco.

Among the new part numbers will be several Walker Ultra manifold converters, which, like the OE parts, are designed to be installed directly to the cylinder head of the engine for corresponding OBD II (1996 and newer) vehicles. This configuration became popular with original equipment manufacturers in the late 1990s because the converter’s proximity to the engine provides hotter exhaust gases, allowing the converter to more quickly and effectively begin to reduce emissions. Millions of passenger vehicles equipped with this technology have entered the aftermarket replacement cycle, according to Tenneco.

Walker Ultra catalytic converters are the right choice to help eliminate MIL issues on any covered OBD II application, regardless of make or model, the company says. Each Ultra direct-fit converter features OE-style pipe routing, flanges, hangers and enhanced heat shields, providing a perfect fit for quick and easy installation and trouble-free performance.
