Make sure you look through your parts catalog to see what’s included in some of these kits.

Is it easier to downsell or upsell a timing-belt kit?

You get a call for a timing belt. You look up on the part screen. You have the make and model displayed, and there are a lot of options out there. You could go for the easy sale, and the least expensive timing belt or timing-belt kit. Do your customer a favor. Start to look at those timing-belt-kit options – you’re bound to find one that best suits their needs.

A lot of these kits include everything you’ll need to do that job properly, so the vehicle can last until the next service interval. This can include a water pump, seals, idler pulleys and other things to get the job done right the first time.

So, make sure that you look through your parts catalog to see what’s included in some of these kits, and mention that to your customer.

Recommending Replacement Oxygen Sensors

The two main types of O2 sensors are narrow-band and wide-band sensors.

All vehicles built since January 1, 1996, are required to have OBD II systems, and coinciding with that mandate, all vehicles built since 1996 have multiple oxygen sensors, positioned both before and after the catalytic converter.

Modern oxygen sensors are much faster and more accurate than previous iterations. This allows the engine to enter closed-loop control faster, which decreases emissions and fuel usage by as much as 15% to 20%.
