Most portable electronic devices are powered by a lithium-ion battery. These batteries are ideal for small electronics because of their high power-to-weight ratio, high energy efficiency and low self-discharge, among other attributes. They’re also well-suited for electric vehicles, which is why most EVs today use them.
As EV adoption ramps up, it’s important to take note of some of the shortcomings of lithium-ion batteries, particularly in regard to safety.
