VIDEO: Why Is My ‘Check Engine’ Light On?

The “Check Engine” light is an indicator on the dash that alerts owners that some system in or on their engine is not operating within designed parameters.

The “Check Engine” light is designed to function in two ways.

Light on steady indicates that some part of the system is not operating in the way it is intended to. It’s not an urgent alert, but the vehicle should be diagnosed as soon as possible.

If the light is flashing, move the vehicle to safe spot and do not continue to drive the vehicle. This is because the system that’s out of parameter is one that could cause additional damage to the engine.
