‘Who And What’ On Route 66 Make Road To AAPEX Exciting

The Brougham is running like a champ – but is the smooth ride just the calm before the storm?

It’s the stuff road trips are made of – the unexpected, the interesting and even the bizarre. They’re the roadside detours that are so intriguing you can’t help but pull the car over and soak it all in.

Luckily, the 33-year-old Cadillac Brougham was running well. Babcox Media’s ASE-certified technician Joe Keene fixed it up with high-quality components from the aftermarket for the 2,500-mile drive from Akron, Ohio, to Las Vegas for AAPEX.

So well, in fact, that Keene had a chance to revel in the Route 66 sights and sounds and meet a few unlikely friends along the way – from a pair of famous brothers to a former president and a few of the unsung heroes that are today’s keepers of Route 66’s glory days. On the drive, Keene reflects on a few of the additional aftermarket component improvements he made to the Caddy before leaving Akron.

But is this smooth sailing or the calm before the storm? The Caddy’s performance in this episode could be too good to be true. Watch the episode to find out what happens.

Choosing the Right Motor Oil

Learn why choosing the right motor oil is crucial for modern vehicles with turbocharging and direct injection technology.

For most people, purchasing a vehicle is the second largest investment they will ever make. Keeping up with the oil and filter changes based on the recommended service intervals is perhaps the most important thing they can do to protect their investment. Today's motor oils are far more complex than they were years ago when you poured the oil out of a can. So are today's vehicles. As vehicle manufacturers continue to look for ways to meet federal emissions and fuel economy standards, many OEMs have turned to technologies such as turbocharging and direct injection to squeeze more power and efficiency out of smaller displacement engines. While these engines have fewer cylinders than the mainstream vehicles of yesteryear, they also operate under higher pressures and temperatures compared to traditionally, naturally aspirated engines, and that creates additional demands for today's motor oil. That's why motor oil today is often blended to meet the needs of a specific manufacturer or even a specific engine.
