I had a customer come in over the weekend. He had a 2000 Ford Ranger, 4wd. His shock absorber was very blown. The body of the shock had ripped at the weld. He tried to install new shocks, but even after he had jacked up the control arms, the new shocks were an inch to short. What could cause this? Jerry, O'Reilly Auto Parts

Jerry,
The front shocks for a 2WD 2000 Ranger are about 3" shorter compressed length, and 4" shorter extended length than the 4WD. The 4WD shocks have a longer travel as well. Assuming stock suspension and ride height, is it possible that your customer has put 2WD shocks on his truck?
