Auto Care Association Sponsors New Automotive Resource Guide For U.S. Exporters

This resource guide, prepared by the U.S. Commercial Service's Global Automotive Team, is designed to help U.S. companies identify export markets where U.S. automotive products or services are likely to succeed.

BETHESDA, Md. – The Auto Care Association announced it will serve as the exclusive platinum sponsor for the newly-released third edition of the Automotive Resource Guide: A Reference for U.S. Exporters. This resource guide, prepared by the U.S. Commercial Service’s Global Automotive Team, is designed to help U.S. companies identify export markets where U.S. automotive products or services are likely to succeed.

It offers foreign market intelligence, such as market entry, industry trends, primary competitors, trade barriers, statistical data and additional resources to help increase international sales. Additionally, this edition includes a new section – “Used and Remanufactured Automotive Products” – to address the distinctive market challenges and opportunities for this rapidly growing sector. The Resource Guide is free of charge and can be downloaded directly here or by visiting www.export.gov/industry/auto/.

“The Auto Care Association, with the help of our international segment, the Auto International Association (AIA), is committed to providing our members with the information and resources needed to identify new markets for their products and services,” said Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO, Auto Care Association. “We work with the U.S. Commercial Service year-round to promote U.S. auto parts exports, and we’re delighted to sponsor this excellent resource guide.”

“This is our most comprehensive resource guide yet,” said Eduard Roytberg, Global Automotive Team Leader, U.S. Commercial Service. “In addition to 51 market briefs and an extensive sub-sector reference chart, this edition includes the latest export statistics, listing of most popular automotive harmonized system (HS) codes as well as additional resources. I’d like to thank the Auto Care Association for its support and for helping us offer this publication at no cost to U.S. companies.”

In February, the Department of Commerce announced that for the fourth year in a row, the United States set a record for annual exports. Total U.S. exports for 2013 reached $2.3 trillion. The automotive industry is one of the largest manufactured goods export sectors in the United States. In 2013, the total American export of automotive parts reached $77.3 billion – a more than 80 percent increase since 2009. Despite this growth in exports, many American firms remain focused on domestic markets. Less than 5 percent of U.S. companies export, and more than half of those exporters sell to only one market.
