LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Robert Bosch LLC, worldwide supplier of automotive parts and systems to vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket, has added engine air filters to its Workshop Filters portfolio.

With this new addition, Bosch is now able to offer a complete line of Workshop Filters — air, oil, fuel and cabin air filters — to automotive service technicians through their local Bosch jobbers and warehouse distributors (WDs) in the United States and Canada. “Bosch Workshop Filters convey the message of OE quality and functionality to the aftermarket,” said John King, director, product management, Filtration and Energy Products, Robert Bosch LLC Automotive Aftermarket NA. “Whether oil, air, fuel or cabin air, proper filtration plays a vital role in the proper functioning and longevity of many key vehicle systems.” Engine Air Filter The latest addition to the Workshop Filters line, completing the Bosch portfolio of filters, the engine air filter is just as important to the longevity and performance of a vehicle’s engine as are oil and fuel filters.

Bosch Workshop Engine Air Filters are 98 percent efficient and their exclusive filtration media prevents contaminants from entering the engine, thereby helping to extend engine performance and life, the company says.

Bosch Workshop Engine Air Filters are competitively priced and are manufactured to Bosch quality specifications. Bosch offers 231 engine air filter SKUs that cover a total of 219 million vehicles representing 90 percent of Domestic, Asian and European vehicles in operation in the United States and Canada.

Oil Filter The Bosch Workshop Oil Filter line offers a total of 97 spin-on and cartridge oil filters. These 97 SKUs provide 98 percent coverage for 237 million Domestic, Asian and European vehicles in operation. Bosch Workshop Oil Filters have a 97.5 efficiency rating which means they are 97.5 percent percent efficient at removing dirt and other contaminants, and a have a capacity to hold 13 grams of dirt. Thirteen grams of dirt is the equivalent of 31 standard size paper clips. (Based on ISO4548-12 at 20 microns on 3500.)

Competitively priced, Bosch Workshop Oil Filters protect a vehicle’s engine from harmful pollutants and dirt that can enter an engine and cause premature wear, which, if neglected, can potentially lead to complete engine shutdown. Replacing the oil filter regularly or at intervals recommended by the manufacturer, helps a vehicle maintain its performance as long as it remains in service and at the level for which it was designed.

Fuel Filter Fuel filter replacement prolongs the life of the engine and maintains the performance of the vehicle by keeping dirt and foreign particles out of the fuel injection system. Damage to the fuel injectors can lead to erratic performance, poor gas mileage and, in some cases, complete engine failure.

Based on the company’s extensive experience as a supplier of quality parts to vehicle manufacturers, Bosch Workshop Fuel Filters feature multi-layered filter media with 99 percent efficiency based on SAE J905 at 0.7 bar on 77041WS and a capacity to hold 15 grams of harmful particles based on the SAE J905 on 77041WS test. The specially designed media is highly resistant to aggressive contaminants and moisture.

Bosch Workshop Fuel Filters feature precise, reliable connections that result in 100 percent fuel filtration, and a robust aluminum- plastic- or surface- treated steel filter housing that is designed to withstand high pressure, thus offering a longer fuel filter service life. Combined, these features offer 100 percent internal and external integrity.

Bosch offers 121 new Workshop Fuel Filters that provide 85 percent coverage for 133 million vehicles – Domestic, Asian and European – that still require a fuel filter. The Bosch program offers both inline and cartridge fuel filters. A range of diesel fuel filters is also available, filtering down to as low as 6.5 microns (unless specified differently by OE) to ensure engine protection.

Bosch recommends referring to the vehicle owner’s manual to ensure that the correct filter is used for the application. Fuel filters should be replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended change intervals. Cabin Air Filter Usually located under the hood, behind the glove box, or under the dashboard, cabin air filters are designed to help a vehicle’s occupants breathe clean, fresh air.

The cabin air filter captures environmental contaminants such as pollen, dust and dirt that can potentially enter a vehicle’s interior through its heating and air-conditioning vents. Bosch Workshop Cabin Air Filters are 90 percent efficient in capturing contaminants 10 microns in size based on ISO-11155 on P3610WS/C3610WS.

One micron is one-millionth of a meter. Bosch offers two types of cabin air filters – particulate filters and activated charcoal filters. The two-layered Bosch particulate filter featuring mold-resistant media includes a non-woven pre-filter layer and an electrically charged microfiber layer for maximum performance and durability. The upgraded activated charcoal filter’s four-layered design includes an electrically charged microfiber layer and adds an activated charcoal layer between two non-woven layers that retain the carbon.

This upgraded design provides maximum absorption of foul smelling gases such as ozone, nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide and hydrocarbons. The lineup of Bosch Workshop Cabin Air Filters includes 153 part numbers that offer 86 percent coverage for 114 million vehicles in operation (VIO) in North America.

For maximum benefit, Bosch recommends replacing cabin air filters according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation or every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. However, many vehicle owners are not aware of the existence of this filter or that it needs to be replaced, which gives shops and technicians a chance to educate the customer and make a profit by doing so.

“With more than 155 million vehicles on the road needing to replace cabin air filters, sales of these filters are expected to double over the next five years creating an opportunity for additional revenue and satisfied customers – one that no savvy shop owner should ignore,” said King. “A line of filters backed by the reliability and efficiency of a trusted brand allows automotive service technicians to provide customers with top quality products,” said King.

“Furthermore, the new blue and white Bosch workshop packaging design that is being rolled out is aligned with the overall corporate identity of Bosch and represents the company’s premium quality reputation.”
