Counterman’s “Guess the Car” contest challenges our readers to solve an automotive riddle, for a chance to win $100. And each month, we receive hundreds of responses from aftermarket professionals trying to guess the model of the vehicle depicted.
The correct answer for the April/May contest is the AMC Gremlin. The winner is Andy Miller, manager at Fisher Auto Parts in Norwalk, Ohio. Now, let’s get to know the “Guess the Car” champion.
CM: How long have you been working in the auto parts business?
AM: Thirty-one years.
CM: What do you like most about your job?
AM: Definitely taking care of the customers and making sure they’re happy with their experience.
CM: What’s the strangest question a customer has asked you?
AM: That’s a tough question for me because in 30-some years, I’ve heard many, and none surprise me or stick out anymore it seems. Plus I have a horrible memory.
CM: What’s the coolest car you’ve ever owned or worked on?
AM: The most interesting one that sticks out in my mind is a ’63 Corvette with a manual transmission. I put a clutch in it for a guy. I did it to make some money on the side, years ago.
I’ve always been mechanically inclined, and I do my own repairs. I’m always one of my best customers.
CM: Do you have any interesting hobbies? What do you do for fun?
AM: Work, work and work.
I’m a typical guy. I like to hunt and fish, and I like working on cars. I’m kind of a jack of all trades, master of none.
CM: What’s your dream car?
AM: There are so many. I can tell you that I’d love to have another – and I will have another – 1970 Monte Carlo.
But if I was going to have another car that I just wanted to have, there’s a Corvair truck that’s like a van. It has a side bed on it, ’64. [Editor’s note: He is referring to the 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside pickup.]
