DETROIT — HELLA previewed some of its latest products and technology for customers and automotive journalists prior to the opening of the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

HELLA executives from both North America and Europe were on hand at the company’s Innovative Technology Solutions Suite at Detroit’s Cobo Center to discuss a variety of automotive lighting and electronics products.

HELLA technologies on display included:

  • Intelligent radar functions for driver assistance systems
  • Innovative electronics for more efficient energy management
  • System components for smart fuel and thermal management
  • Advanced solutions for car access systems
  • Matrixbeam solutions from MatrixLED to MatrixHD Systems
  • LCD concepts for front and rear applications
  • Novel designs for signal lighting

In addition, HELLA offered journalists a glimpse at future connected car technology by showing off product-development efforts to help connected cars perceive, process and even interact with their environment.

HELLA’s technology, according to the company, would:

Alert you to damages to your car — Damage Detection
Receive information on your smartphone about damages to your unattended vehicle while in a parking garage, parking lot or on the street including type, time, and location.

Help load your car while you are shopping — Vehicle as Assistant
Leave your car at a shopping mall’s autonomous-car drop-off area for it to park itself and have your shopping loaded by mall personnel with the help of features like automatic seat adjustments based on load.

Park autonomously in narrow parking spots — Autonomous Parking
Use your smartphone to activate the autonomous parking function. Obstacles, such as shopping carts, are detected and the parking process is paused until the obstacle has been removed. Lighting features signal the parking process is complete.

Sense and adjust to urban environments — Intelligent Urban Driving
When high particulate matter is detected in the air, features like brighter rear lamps increase your visibility to others, or it could increase the air circulation inside your vehicle, engage the electric driving mode and match traffic-light colors to your vehicle’s interior lighting.

Sense obstacles on the road and react proactively — Intelligent Country Drive
In rural, curved, and unpredictable traffic situations, you could increase safety through side-collision mitigation; interior lighting that informs you of approaching traffic; headlamps that react to road conditions ahead, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Vehicle CO2emissions also could be reduced through on-board recuperation storage and an engine-off coasting function.

With its lighting and electronics solutions for connected cars, HELLA highlights how connectivity reflects on all product domains and makes future cars safer, more comfortable and more efficient.
