MAHLE Aftermarket Inc. has announced the “Drive with the Original” promotion with a grand-prize of a custom-built, twin-turbocharged, MAHLE Ford Mustang from Petty’s Garage to celebrate the launch of the MAHLE Original gasket brand.

The “Drive with the Original” promotion, unlike anything MAHLE Aftermarket has done before, will run from Nov. 1, 2016, to October 1, 2017. Four finalists will be randomly selected from all entries to receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the AAPEX 2017 in Las Vegas. The “Original,” Richard Petty will be there when the finalists select a key fob, one of which will start the grand prize MAHLE Original Petty’s Garage Mustang.

“This is a great way for us to thank technicians for putting their trust in MAHLE Original gaskets,” said Jon Douglas, general manager of MAHLE Aftermarket North America. “We’ll be giving away thousands of prizes, including a fabulous custom Mustang from Petty’s Garage.”

The promotion is open to all professional technicians in the United States when their shop purchases select MAHLE Original gasket sets. The MAHLE Original gasket box will include a sticker with detailed information the technician can use to enter the promotion. The promotion features an instant win component, where it reveals whether the technician has been awarded one of the instant prizes.

Even if the technician does not win instantly, they are still entered in the drawing for one of the four trips to Las Vegas for the grand-prize drawing. Technicians can enter every time their shop purchases a select MAHLE Original gasket set.

The four finalists will be announced on or about Oct. 5, 2017. The parts outlet that sold the MAHLE Original gasket sets to the four finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2018 Daytona 500.

The MAHLE Petty’s Garage Ford Mustang comes with distinctive custom paint in MAHLE blue and is powered by a twin turbo, 1,000 horsepower 5.0-liter engine. The engine is built with MAHLE internal components throughout, which includes MAHLE Original branded gaskets. Petty’s Garage has specially modified the suspension, spoiler and interior. Upgraded, high-performance wheels and tires complete the package.

MAHLE Aftermarket Inc. announced on June 30 that the new brand name for the gasket line would be MAHLE Original gaskets; these will be the same products sold in North America since well before MAHLE Aftermarket acquired the engine parts division from Dana Corporation in 2007. The MAHLE Original gasket line will continue to offer the best coverage in the aftermarket across domestic, Asian, European and heavy-duty applications.

MAHLE Original gaskets match the OE parts in form, fit and function, ensuring that the parts are designed and constructed to the same exacting standards as the gaskets that came on the car. MAHLE Original gasket sets include all the parts necessary for the technician to do the job correctly.

MAHLE Aftermarket further supports sales of the MAHLE Original gaskets with the most comprehensive marketing support in the aftermarket. MAHLE offers a complete range of product flyers, technical service bulletins and print advertising. An eLearning online training module is available for technician education.

Customer Service: How It’s Done

Customer service should be your number one priority, and it all starts with the greeting.

This is always an important topic to discuss, because I consider excellent customer service one of the most important tools you can have to earn trust, respect and repeat business from the customers that come through your door. Whether that customer is do-it-yourselfer from across town or the professional repair shop across the street, your business depends on a solid relationship. It’s a subject that I am passionate about, and it’s one that many people are losing touch with. Whether you are communicating to someone in person, on the phone or using some type of social media, good customer service and bad can both exist. You can’t afford the latter, so this is the first in a series of topics which can and should be shared from the front of the shop to the back. No matter which role you hold, you represent the shop and yourself. Customer service should be your number one priority.First on the list is the greeting. From the second a customer walks in the door, they need to know you appreciate them coming in and how important they are to your business. First impressions are everything and here’s the correct way to do it each and every time: look them directly in the eye, smile and say hello!Of course, you can say “Good morning” or “Welcome to Joe’s Autocare,” but it should be a formal greeting and the most important thing is that you have smiled, looked them in the eye and recognized that they have walked through the door. You should always retain a formal greeting until you are on a first-name basis with a customer. Only once you have established that level of relationship is it OK to use the less formal greeting of “Hi,” followed by the person’s name. This greeting does more than just indicate respect and appreciation for someone walking through the door. Most likely there are customers both new and old who are in earshot of your conversation. For newer customers, this continues to build rapport and reinforce their positive view of your shop; they see that you demonstrate respect and treat everyone in the same manner. For repeat customers, even ones that have been coming for years, the greeting is important because the way you treat them is the reason they continue to come. And when a long-time customer comes in and you greet them with “Hi [First Name],” this indicates your appreciation for them and that you’re glad to see them as a person, more than just a customer. New customers that witness this will see that your repeat customers are comfortable enough to be on a first-name basis, another indication of the trust they have in you.
