NUCAP Explains Innovative Step Chamfer Process For Brake Pads

NUCAP’s research and development team was given the challenges of improving flatness capabilities and remove weight from non-critical areas of the brake backing plate.

TORONTO — NUCAP says the company’s innovative Step Chamfer stamping process for brake pad backing plates reduces weight, and improves flatness on backing plates providing enhanced value for our Original Equipment customers.

“Step Chamfer is one of the many ways our strong R&D partnerships with Original Equipment manufacturers helps bring improved braking product to the market,” says Jayson Keever NUCAP’s executive vice president of global sales and marketing, “by rethinking the chamfers role on a backing plate, we found a way to remove material at the backing plate’s leading edge. This has a positive impact on fuel economy by producing lighter-weight braking systems.”

NUCAP’s research and development team was given the challenges of improving flatness capabilities and remove weight from non-critical areas of the brake backing plate. The result was the Step Chamfer process that provides a simple solution with positive impact in both areas. NUCAP’s innovative process for Step Chamfering improves on traditional angle chamfering by removing more material, while eliminating the distortions generated when angle chamfer is produced. The end result is a lighter brake pad that is flatter and more consistent through the manufacturing process.
