EPA vs. CARB Catalytic Converters

EPA vs. CARB Catalytic Converters

When should you recommend EPA-compliant converters and when should you recommend CARB-compliant converters?

When replacing a catalytic converter, it’s important to know whether the customer’s vehicle falls under EPA or CARB (California Air Resources Board) emissions standards.

Some states follow California’s air-quality standards and some don’t. The other states that follow the California guidelines are considered “CARB-compliant.”

In this video, Clint Cooper, automotive diagnostic expert with AP Emissions Technologies, and Ryan McDonough, manufacturing product expert with AP Emissions Technologies, clear up some of the confusion surrounding this topic.

Sway Bars and Linkages

The basic operation of a sway bar is quite simple.

Sway bars, anti-sway bars, roll bars, anti-roll bars and stabilizer bars are all the same thing, and it’s generally understood they improve handling, but how?

Any time a vehicle is turning, forces related to the laws of physics cause the body to roll, sway or tip away from the turn. When this happens, the weight shift to the outside, in turn compresses the suspension on the outside, resulting in lift and a loss of traction on the inside, which leads to poor handling and potentially the loss of control.
