What’s Wrong with Tesla Control Arms?

Even the most beloved brands have their quirks. 

Even the most beloved brands have their quirks. 

In the case of Tesla, one of these quirks is the upper control arm in Models X, Y and 3. 

This Tesla OE control arm boasts a state of-the-art design made of a hybrid steel and composite polymer called FRP, which stands for fiber-reinforced plastic. While this is a light and strong control arm, its strength could be questionable, and the method of attaching the ball joint leads to a noticeable SEAM. 

These ball joints have been known to creak and squeak, and there have been documented instances of the ball stud separating from its socket in the joint.
