SOUTHFIELD, Mich. ― DENSO received the 2015 Automotive News Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence (PACE) Award for its industry-first standardized Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) unit that is 20 percent smaller and lighter than conventional units. The HVAC system can be used in a wide variety of vehicle lines and models, resulting in cost-savings for car makers. Traditionally, HVAC units are designed and tailored to each vehicle model. DENSO’s new unit is unique in that it provides the opportunity to reduce the scope of multiple designs and complexity from customization. The newly standardized heating and cooling system reduces CO2 emissions through improved vehicle efficiency from the overall reduction in mass and electrical power consumption.

“This recognition confirms DENSO’s continued leadership in innovation and our ability to meet the needs of automakers and car buyers,” said Jason Hendry, director of Climate Control at DENSO International America, Inc. “Using DENSO’s wide ranging design and manufacturing capabilities in the thermal space, we developed the industry’s first standardized automotive climate control module that can more easily fit into different instrument panels across different makes and models. The lighter and more efficient design adds value for automakers, and the smaller size allows for more legroom and interior space for driver and passengers.”

This is DENSO’s second PACE Award. It’s Very High-Pressure Solenoid Fuel Injection System won a PACE Award in 2004. DENSO will continue to help create an advanced automotive society by developing technologies that can improve comfort and environmental performance of vehicles.
