Recommending Replacement Oxygen Sensors

The two main types of O2 sensors are narrow-band and wide-band sensors.

All vehicles built since January 1, 1996, are required to have OBD II systems, and coinciding with that mandate, all vehicles built since 1996 have multiple oxygen sensors, positioned both before and after the catalytic converter.

Modern oxygen sensors are much faster and more accurate than previous iterations. This allows the engine to enter closed-loop control faster, which decreases emissions and fuel usage by as much as 15% to 20%.
