I had a customer come in and ask me about an injector problem he has been having for the past 70,000 miles. He has a 1997 3/4 ton Suburban 4x4 with a 454 v8, his original injectors, fuel pump, pressure regulator, and fuel filter were changed at 136,000 miles. Now at 13,000-mile intervals he is having his injectors changed, all eight, because they are leaking. They are factory Chevrolet parts each time. What could possible be causing this and would you happen to know the difference between a Borg Warner injector and the factory part?

As far as I know the Borg Warner injector should look and function the same as the factory or dealer part. But I think the the problem is not the parts but how it is installed.

When replacing any primary fuel system component, it is essential the tank is inspected and cleaned for contaminates. If possible, have the tank steam-cleaned. Also, the return fuel line should be purged. Even if it is 70,000 miles later, the dirt and fragments from the damaged components could still be in the tank just waiting to be ingested by the fuel pump. Just a small particle of dirt or metal can cause damage to the internal surfaces of the injector. This is what is causing the fuel injectors to leak.

Also, check the fuel filter and change it every time a fuel system component is replaced.
