Miles Driven Data Released For January 2012

Based on preliminary reports from the State Highway Agencies, travel during January 2012 on all roads and streets in the nation changed by +1.6 percent (3.5 billion vehicle miles) resulting in estimated travel for the month at 224.8 billion vehicle-miles.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHA) Office of Highway Policy Information (OHPI) has released miles driven information for January 2012.

Based on preliminary reports from the State Highway Agencies, travel during January 2012 on all roads and streets in the nation changed by +1.6 percent (3.5 billion vehicle miles) resulting in estimated travel for the month at 224.8 billion vehicle-miles.

This total includes 71.2 billion vehicle-miles on rural roads and 153.6 billion vehicle-miles on urban roads and streets.

In December 2011, FHA reported a total of 243.6 billion vehicle-miles driven.
