I have a 1989 carb/man Honda Accord that throttle surges up to 2,000 and then back to almost stall while sitting still. Does this most of the time and when it doesnt it runs a little rough but no lack of power.

I have a 1989 carb/man Honda Accord that throttle surges up to 2,000 and then back to almost stall while sitting still. Does this most of the time and when it doesnt it runs a little rough but no lack of power.

Sounds like a vacuum control valve in one of the two vacuum boxes is leaking. It’s probably going to take a lot of reading about that very complex system, a lot of patience and/or a Honda technician’s help to pinpoint the vacuum leak causing the idle fluctuation.
