Replacing A CVT Isn't The Only Option

VIDEO: Replacing A CVT Isn’t The Only Option

There are products in the aftermarket that specifically address CVT issues such as leaks, noise, slipping and hesitation.

When it comes to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), it seems drivers tend to either love it or hate it.

With “stepless” gear ratios, the CVT doesn’t shift. Instead, it delivers a smooth progression through the range of speeds.  For those purists who love the sound and feel of upshifting and downshifting, a CVT isn’t going to be their cup of tea.

But it’s safe to say that ALL drivers hate CVTs in one specific situation – and that’s when they fail.

CVTs are more complex and specialized than a standard automatic transmission, and repair costs often are very expensive. When they’re faced with a $4,000 bill for replacing a CVT, many vehicle owners simply throw in the towel and start looking for a new car.

The good news is not all transmission trouble has to break the bank or force the owner to part ways with their vehicle.

Why Do Timing Chains Stretch?

If your customer’s timing chain fails, it can lead to serious engine damage and repairs can be complex and costly for your customer.

Timing change. Stretch is not the stretching of the timing change's links. It is elongation of the timing chain caused by where to the change components. Timing change stretch is a common issue in internal combustion engines. To understand it better, let's break down the basics. The timing chain links the crankshaft, which powers the pistons to the camshaft controlling the opening and closing of the engine's valves.
